Parisian Water Fountain with Neptune symbols - how lovely!
This enormous bronze was centered in the green space above our subway station. Just imagine the infrastructure below required to support this tremendous weight.
A close up of the bronze (prior photo) revealed the two aspects of Leo. First, Leo can be courageous and noble (the heads up lion). Second, Leo can be insecure and sensitive (the heads down lion).
We took many close up photos of this statue. It is such a tremendous testiment to public art!
We encountered this restaurant where the food delivery for the day had arrived before the restaurant opened. The delivery was simply left on the doorstep awaiting the owner's arrival.
This is the bakery where we purchased our daily bread and where we were helped to hone our limited French.
Grave marker at Pere Lachaise cemetary in Paris. This is a famous cemetary in Paris and it is known to many fans of rock and roll as the resting place of Jim Morrison.
This is Jim Morrison's grave site at the cemetary. We arrived on July 4th, which is the day after the anniversary of Jim's passing on July 3rd.
This room is overcrowded and stale. To me, it is so for no good reason. However, most tourists we saw at the Louvre were simply making a beeline to this room. See the Mona Lisa on the marble wall at the back of the photo. It is a small painting and it is behind bullet proof glass. I gaurantee you have seen better images of this painting on television than you will see at the museum. I found this comical. With such tremendous art on display, why are so many ignored on the path to the Mona Lisa...
Tammy ponders her thoughts after viewing Winged Victory. This statue is larger than I expected and only a small portion of what was a much larger marble monument. The level of detail is incredible despite the fact it is a mere remnant of a larger ensemble.
Voltaire - what a great outfit!
This is a rare bronze of Mercury. Wait, bronzes of Mercury are actually quite common. But, how often do we get to see Mercury attaching his wings!
This is an alegory of Winter.
We loved peering into this "storage" room at the Louvre. The amount of art tucked into this space was unbelievable. We think they were shifting galleries and we could not help but wonder what we were missing out on.
The Appolo fountain at Versailles.
We visited Paris when the conversion of the dollar to the Euro was at its lowest. So, we saved some money by eating Italian food. A wonderful pizzeria was at the street level below our apartement. We ate there quite often and have fond memories of the owner. No problemo was always the answer.
Tammy was asked to pose for this picture at our favorite "quick stop" for a beer! This delightful young man was taking over the reigns of the cafe from his father and was a complete charm!
