While
Evolutionary Astrology, or
astrology in general, is
concerned with questions such as “what, why and when”, Astrocartography
addresses the dimension of “where”. Astrocartography
can identify
particular locations that favor the vast array of interests people have in life,
such as career, success, family, retirement, writing a book, getting an
education or even a location where you can simply relax and get away from it all.
Astrocartography, which was developed by Jim Lewis, is based on the principal that each individual has certain locations where particular planets are found to have greater importance or influence. In traditional astrology this principal is known as angularity, which recognizes that planets located an angle in the birth chart have increased energy and importance in one’s life. Since each planet represents a particular aspect of one’s personality, when one relocates to a location (relocation astrology) where a particular planet’s energy is emphasized, the planet emphasized takes on new significance and is “activated” in one’s life. This activation leads to the opportunity to actualize the potential represented by that planet.
Therefore, each individual will find some Astrocartography locations to be more important than others. At locations where the energies of two or more planets combine, one often experiences circumstances that call upon one to step up and respond to those experiences. This is particularly true when the planets involved represent one’s emerging or developing skills. At these locations, one will experience opportunities to develop the new skills and abilities that promote actualizing one’s evolutionary intent or purpose in life. Certain particularly powerful locations are called Destiny Points, because they indicate locations where one will be drawn to “no matter what”. At Destiny Points, one experiences powerful, life changing events. It is important to note that when one does not go to a Destiny Point, then the energies at that location come to you!
