Do you wonder about life’s big questions, such as the meaning of your life and how that meaning and purpose fits into your daily life? Have you wondered what messages the events of life are trying to tell you? Evolutionary Astrology promotes greater awareness of the meaning of one’s life and enhances the potential to choose to live in harmony with the intention of one’s soul.
Evolutionary Astrology begins with the premise that each person is a soul that is in the process of progressive evolution and eventually toward reconnection with the Divine. The birth chart is like a blueprint of the soul, reflecting the evolutionary condition or karma that the soul brings into this lifetime as well as the evolutionary intentions, one’s purpose or dharma for this lifetime. Evolutionary Astrology acknowledges that while there are common or archetypal themes of life that are common to all humanity, that each person’s individual purpose and path in life is unique.
The principal of the evolution of the soul is reflected in the planet Pluto, which contains both the deepest existing security patterns as well as the desire to evolve, to be transformed into something new and more complete. These pre-existing security patterns are central to the creation of one’s karma. While karma means many things to different people, it essentially implies two concepts, ones habitual actions and their natural results. In Christian terms karma means, “As you sow, so shall you reap”. Thus, each human being is responsible for the realities they experience, both internally and externally, as their choices and actions today will create their future karma.
The goal of Evolutionary Astrology is to promote a greater awareness of one’s mission in life, or dharma. The process of successfully moving beyond one’s karma and toward fulfilling one’s dharma can be viewed as being on one’s own heroic quest, on which one must face and overcome their greatest fears or slay their inner dragon. Therefore, the path to succeeding at this quest requires summoning the courage to both become aware of who we are and to choose to work toward overcoming the challenges and live a more fulfilling, rewarding and happy life.
In order to recreate or set up the conditions and dynamics needed to fulfill ones past karma in this life, the soul chooses one’s family and early childhood experiences. As we move into adulthood, we expand our experiences in life through relationships. We enter into relationships that serve the purpose of furthering the soul’s evolutionary needs. The key question in relationships is not “Are we compatible?” but rather “What is the purpose of our relationship? How can we support one another to reach our goals? What issues are we here to resolve?” Additionally, one’s dharma is supported when one adopts a career, or life’s work that is also one’s “right work”. Right work implies doing both what is rewarding and meaningful to your sense of purpose in life as well as providing some needed service to society.
Over the course of one’s life one experiences different circumstances and as well as an evolving inner development that supports the soul’s intent in this lifetime. These events and circumstances are reflected in transit charts, which reflect the movement of the planets in the heavens as they relate to an individuals birth chart. These are the unfolding events in the hero’s quest, in which one can achieve personal success by becoming aware of the issues underlying the current events and asserting free will by taking conscious action that is in harmony with the intentions for one’s life. Thus, these events can be seen as a barometer that reflects the degree to which one is living ones life in harmony with the intention of the soul. The more one aligns themselves with the movement of the planets, the more rewarding and less stressful life becomes. It is important to note that these opportunities and challenges do not produce fated result. Fate is the acceptance of, dependence on and abdication to ones pre-existing genetic, cultural and personal habitual standards in determining one's actions. This often leads to the needless repetition of the past and more often than not, more suffering. However, we all have the ability to make a certain degree of choices via our free will. Free will is the ability to assert ones will not to conform to the habits of the past, through becoming aware and developing new responses to life’s challenges.
